Artist Bio

I was born and raised in Shawinigan, Quebec and moved to Aylmer, Quebec
with my
family as a teenager. Both my parents are very artistically inclined people and
I was
introduced to different crafts at a very young age. My mother has always been an
artist
and has worked with ceramics, oil paintings, etc. My father has worked
with wood
throughout his life and I recall having a swing right in my father's workshop.
My father
made many furniture pieces and beautiful bird houses including a replica of his
childhood
home in Caraquet, New Brunswick. Most recently he has made for me the beautiful stands
with
which I display my jewelry.
My interest in jewelry making began at a very young age when I played with my
mothers jewelry. As a child I was making bead jewelry and macrame which I sold
to
friends and family. When I met my husband, whose passion is woodworking, I soon
discovered another world of interest in working with wood. I am learning about
the
different type of domestic and exotic woods which I use in my pieces of jewelry.
We have together visited many craft shows and galleries to gain insight into
this
wonderful craft. At one such show, I met a local goldsmith who also taught
courses
in jewelry making. I have since taken some of these courses and in the process
learned
about working with metal, stone, wood and to experiment in combining these
materials.
My other interests include downhill skiing, reading, hiking and bird watching
right on
our
property. I have an intense love of
nature and I use many of the organic forms in
nature
as inspiration in the creation of my jewelry pieces.
